An Unconventional Journey as an Expat Entrepreneur and High-Performance Coach
Marcia Berlanga Robinson, a proud dual citizen of the USA and Spain, embarked on her journey as an Expat Entrepreneur in 2003. For the last 20 years, she has lived an unconventional life as an expatriate and a self-employed Founder in a country that was, at first, foreign to her. In doing so, she models a consistently non-cookie-cutter lifestyle of choice and fruitful self-expression.
Landing the ‘White Whales’
In her first year of independence, Marcia managed to land two ‘white whales’ - clients significantly larger and more powerful than her own business. These were ESADE Business and Law School, a prestigious institution that remained a client for six years, and Deloitte Spain, a globally recognized firm that has been a significant part of her client portfolio since 2006. While she has diversified her client base over time, Marcia continues to provide services with Deloitte Spain through 2024 and probably beyond. This enduring partnership underscores her ability to adapt and cater to the evolving needs of her clients.
It highlights her strategic approach, tailored to cultivate long-term, fruitful partnerships with key players in the industry. Her adept navigation of these relationships demonstrates her adaptability and unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service to all clients, regardless of their size or stature.
Today, she spearheads Dotpreneur® Accelerator and Cityzen Global®, innovative platforms that seamlessly blend lifestyle, expatriation, and startup-business coaching.
Expanding Impact Through Coaching and Business Guidance
Building on her success in landing ‘white whales’, Marcia’s professional expertise extends beyond running her business. She leverages her experience to offer executive-level coaching, nurturing leadership skills and strategic thinking among her clients. Furthermore, she extends her guidance to aspiring coachpreneurs and potential expatriates, drawing on her own unique journey. Marcia’s coaching is particularly beneficial for those aspiring to achieve economic independence, free from the constraints of an external boss. She empowers her clients to express and demonstrate this autonomy in the businesses they share, or hope to share, with the larger world. This guidance is especially relevant for those considering Spain as their base, leveraging her extensive experience and understanding of the local business landscape.
A Coaching Philosophy Rooted in Empowerment
Marcia strives to be the kind of professional that fosters long-term coach/client partnerships. These partnerships are characterized by curiosity, exploration, and the freedom to question and discuss free of judgement. She encourages her clients to respond creatively to whatever challenges arise, personal or professional, on their journey towards their goals.
Leveraging Experience to Guide Your Journey
Marcia holds a BA in the Humanities and International Relations from the esteemed University of Washington in the United States. She is an active ICF member, an accredited Certified Professional Coach and a recognized Master of Career Services by the National Career Development Association, a credential that requires at least 14,000 hours of invoiced work pertinent to career development. These credentials underscore her expertise in guiding clients through the design and implementation of their own vision, expatriation projects, business plans, and career strategies.
A Blend of Professional Excellence and Personal Journey
Marcia, a seasoned entrepreneur in Spain, has not only built several successful microbusinesses over the past seventeen years but also instilled the spirit of self-employment in her family. Two of her three children, now economically independent adults, have chosen the same path, demonstrating the enduring influence of Marcia’s professional journey. This synergy of personal and professional success uniquely positions her as a beacon for those seeking to tread the path of self-employment.
Extensive Experience and Commitment
With over 17 years of coaching experience and more than 15,000 invoiced 1:1 or group coaching hours, Marcia has a proven track record of success. Many of her clients have been with her for 10 years or more, simply moving from one project to the next. Personal Interests and Lifelong Learning
Beyond her professional pursuits, Marcia is an avid reader and is now writing her first novel, a speculative future fiction. She also harbors a keen interest in the psychology of color, exploring its expression and influence on human behavior and emotions.
Marcia’s commitment to lifelong learning and sustainable living is reflected in her involvement with Wilderness Awareness education. She graduated from the comprehensive five-month course offered by Ecovillage.org, to deepen her understanding of sustainable community and its potential to foster environmental responsibility and social harmony.
These personal interests not only enrich Marcia’s life but can also inform her coaching practice, bringing a unique depth and breadth to her work with clients.
